Confucius 4.14

4.14 The Master said, "Do not be concerned that you lack an official position, but rather concern yourself with the means by which you might become established. Do not be concerned that no one has heard of you, but rather strive to become a person worthy of being known."

I think that this saying has the three theories that we learned made by Confucius. It involved Ren (仁), Li (裡) and Yi (易). This saying explains that it doesn't really matter if no one has heard of you.
You have to be worthy of looking forward to being a good person, but not expecting fame in return.

What this mainly means is that you don't have to be famous around the world so that others see you as a good person. You don't need to rely on others to do what you know is the right thing, and it doesn't matter if you are famous or not, you can do whatever good thing you think is right. This involves morals and ethics to know what you are doing is right. You don't need to have a special position to become a good person, you just can, and that will make you worthy of being known. As you read above you can clearly see my examples of Yi, Li and Ren. As you might now, Yi is morality, Li is ethics and fairness, and Ren is giving something without expecting anything in return. I thought that this was a great example of all of them and i hope you see why.

I would compare this aphorism to me. Ive had experiences like this before, when you start out of zero and then become the best. I was a great horse back rider, I jumped and I entered competitions all the time. My horse was beautiful. It was white and huge and her name was Hipanema. She was getting quite old after the years, but I still believed in her. I had this jumping competition in about 2 months and I practiced hors non stop. I could feel my horse trip after she jumped, but I didnt pay attention to it. After a week of practicing, hipanema broke her leg. As you know, if a horse breaks a leg he can never jump again. The competition was in about a month now and I had no horse. I was so nervous and mey coach even told me I wouldnt do it and I would make a fail of myself. About a week before a friend lend me her horse, Oly, for the competition. I was sure I was going to lost because of my lack of practice with the horse but it didnt happen.

I entered to the competition and all my family was so nervous, even more than me. They said I was going to lose and they definetely didnt trust me. After all the horses passed they announced the winners. I won first place for the first time and I won. I compare to this because in the begining no one believed in me, but I won for the first time in my horse with a lot of confidence. Now I'm worthty of being known.
